After Nebuchadnezzar sacked Jerusalem and carried away most of the survivors to Babylon- Ezekiel among them- Ezekiel was shown a vision of what the remnant left behind were up to (Ezekiel 8):
In the gate of the inner court, they set up an image of a false god- to provoke God’s jealousy- an image of jealousy. There was a secret latch in a hole in the wall that opened into a room where 70 of the elders and officers were performing priesthood rituals to demons. And they said “The Lord does not see us. He has gone away.”
At the gate of the Lord’s house, there sat women weeping for the demon Tammuz. And in the inner court, at the door of the Lord’s temple, twenty-five men were facing east, worshiping the sun.
…Hast thou seen this, O son of man? Is it a light thing to the house of Judah that they commit the abominations which they commit here? for they have filled the land with violence, and have returned to provoke me to anger:.. Therefore will I also deal in fury: mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: and though they cry in mine ears with a loud voice, yet will I not hear them. (17-18)
And Nebuchadnezzar came back and finished the job, burning the city down. Nebuchadnezzar was not a good person. But he was the one raised up for this task. God uses the righteous and the unrighteous to fulfill his words.
Ecclesiastes 1:9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
Did you know the same thing goes on today? The thing that has been before will be again.

What is the motivation? Why would someone burn incense to demons, perform ‘spirit cooking’ rituals, dance around a giant owl, betray Jesus?
