Things are getting touchier in the Middle East these days, particularly in the vicinity of Iran. First it was the drone attack. We were told a military response was prepared but called off at the last minute by President Trump. Now, Iran and the UK are involved in a tit for tat tanker game. As troubling as all this is for anyone that understands the ramifications of war with Iran, I can promise you that no one is less amused with what is going on than Israel.
100,000 missiles
Iran has repeatedly threatened to unleash 100,000 missiles on Israel if they are attacked, taking a stance that attempts to make Israel a veritable hostage in this conflict. It is literally a dynamic where they have a gun to a hostages head, the hostage being Israel.
Some people think it is an idle threat- because of Israels’ “Iron Dome”- the most famous and generally accepted as the world’s most advanced anti-missile defense system. However, the Iron Dome is vulnerable to saturation tactics. The system- which some claim is not as accurate as Israel states- can be overwhelmed. Israel even acknowledges that this is a concern.
While the United States and the UK can play ‘see who blinks first’ with Iran- Israel really doesn’t have that luxury. And, if history is any indication- which it usually is- the Jewish state will not hold their breath forever. Just ask Uganda, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, etc. If Israel gets the slightest inkling you are getting ready to jump- they will chop down the diving board, drain the pool, and shoot you in the legs.
Never again.
Elam
Jeremiah 49: 39- But it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring again the captivity of Elam, saith the Lord.
Elam was an ancient nation that was located in what is now southwest Iran (Persia). It has been occupied by Elamites, Medes, Parthians, and Persians. At the time of the Old Testament prophets- it was Elam.

Iranian mobile missile launchers
Today it is in Iran- and the region has several Iranian military, nuclear, and port facilities. It is also the closest location- as the crow flies- to Jerusalem and Israel, less than 1,000 miles to any point in Israel. This is medium-range missile distance.
Guess what Iran has been test-firing just in the last couple of days? If you said medium-range missiles, you would be correct. One of the most problematic issues (for Israel) is that the bulk of these missiles are either in underground bunkers or mounted on mobile launchers.
Damascus/Syria
Isaiah 17: 1- The burden of Damascus. Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.
Syria is aligned with Iran (see map). Hezbollah- an Iranian proxy army, and the largest non-state military force in the world- is stationed throughout the neighboring countries of Lebanon and Syria. They have 130,000+ missiles. That’s alot. Too many for the Iron Dome.
In reality, Israel doesn’t have many options. Poor decisions, handcuffs by the United Nations, and misleading assurances and statements from Western allies have gotten Israel to this point. When they say they will do what is necessary to survive- they mean it.
The days of surgical air strikes has long since passed. As soon as Israel (or an ally) make a move on Iranian positions, the launch order will be given. Hezbollah is waiting with their fingers on the buttons right now.
With mobile launchers, deep underground bunkers, and troops and weapons embedded in urban and civilian areas- a conventional military campaign will be long, bloody, and costly. And, Israel could very well be devastated- or worse. Their last skirmish with Hezbollah did not go well. Some would say Israel lost that war.
Israel may feel (and may be justified) in concluding that if they are to survive, they will have to quickly- and thoroughly- take out large areas of weapons and troops, the location of many not precisely known.
I believe given the circumstances- and the prophecies relating to Israel in the latter days- we will see nuclear weapons used in war for the first time since the end of World War II. Elam will be scattered again- and Damascus will be a ruinous heap.
This will, of course, not be the end of it. The response to the “Jewish threat” will be the Gog-Magog coalition.
Ezekiel 38 Gog Magog
A coalition of nations will come against Israel. They are listed in Ezekiel 38- Meshech, Tubal, Persia, Libya, Ethiopia, Gomer, and Togarmah. Some of these names are familiar- some are speculative as to their modern identity. What is interesting is no mention of Elam.
Ezekiel was familiar with Elam. In Ezekiel 32, the nations that will be scattered by Nebuchadnezzar are listed: Egypt, Asshur, Meshech, Tubal, Sidon, Edom, and Elam.
Elam, Damascus, and 100,000 missiles. The Old Testament prophecies are coming in to focus.

Jeremiah 49: 34 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against Elam in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, saying, 35 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Behold, I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might. 36 And upon Elam will I bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven, and will scatter them toward all those winds; and there shall be no nation whither the outcasts of Elam shall not come. 37 For I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies, and before them that seek their life: and I will bring evil upon them, even my fierce anger, saith the Lord; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them: 38 And I will set my throne in Elam, and will destroy from thence the king and the princes, saith the Lord. 39 But it shall come to pass in the latter days, that I will bring again the captivity of Elam, saith the Lord.

the closest region in Iran to Israel is the southwest- the ancient Elam
Ezekiel 38- And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, 3 And say, Thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: 4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: 5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: 6 Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee. 7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them. 8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them. 9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee. 10 Thus saith the Lord God; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought: 11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates, 12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land. 13 Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil? 14 Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord God; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it? 15 And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army: 16 And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes. 17 Thus saith the Lord God; Art thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days many years that I would bring thee against them? 18 And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord God, that my fury shall come up in my face. 19 For in my jealousy and in the fire of my wrath have I spoken, Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking in the land of Israel; 20 So that the fishes of the sea, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the field, and all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and all the men that are upon the face of the earth, shall shake at my presence, and the mountains shall be thrown down, and the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground. 21 And I will call for a sword against him throughout all my mountains, saith the Lord God: every man’s sword shall be against his brother. 22 And I will plead against him with pestilence and with blood; and I will rain upon him, and upon his bands, and upon the many people that are with him, an overflowing rain, and great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. 23 Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord.
