The Buddha’s of Bamiyan were a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the Eight Man Made Wonders of the world.
Located in modern-day Afghanistan, they were built in the 4th century and stood for 1600 years. Until the Taliban decided they were offensive and dynamited them in 2001.
What was accomplished?
I guess from the Taliban point of view, an ancient reminder that this place was once an important part of Buddhism was eliminated. Never mind the transcendent wonder of this masterpiece from antiquity- it didn’t fit the plan. It threatened them somehow.
The act brought international condemnation and shock from a variety of interests. The perpetrators were accused of being backwards, primitive, superstitious. It revealed the depth of the disdain for non-Muslims that exists in the Muslim world. It is a fanatical aversion to anything “Infidel”.
It revealed that there is an ideology that believes destruction is a creation. Some people create things- paintings, sculptures, architecture, and literature. Their accomplishment is this creative work.
Then there is a group that hates these accomplishments because they can’t accomplish the same thing. They fear them because they are beautiful and inspiring. So, they destroy them. They burn, break, and blow up. That is their work, their creation- destruction.
It is the doctrine of their Master.
The same ideology is thriving in America. Confederate statues and monuments are the infidels, and the socialists are going to make damn sure these inanimate brass objects never hurt anyone. How brave and noble.
By tearing down these symbols of the past, what is being accomplished? Does eliminating the Confederate statues eliminate the Confederacy? Change history? Is it ‘striking back’ some kind of way?

It is said that those who don’t learn history are doomed to repeat it. It could be argued that erasing these symbols is erasing a solemn reminder of a past we don’t want to repeat.
I am a native Texan, which was one of the Confederates. I have gone to see Confederate monuments and statues exactly zero times. I do not understand the logical rationale for destroying historical symbols, scrubbing the relics of the past.
These ‘activists’ are backwards, primitive, superstitious derelicts. Their work and accomplishment is destruction.
I would like to see these people create something, fashion a work with their own hands, and then present this as an alternative. I would like to see any of them make a bronze statue of any kind.
How about if they are so offensive to you, ignore them. That’s what I do with socialists. What kind of people have nothing better to do with their lives than obsess over statues? Celebrate tearing them down like it is a great achievement? Taliban. Antifa. Destroyers.
Sad, empty statue killers.
